Southampton City Council in conjunction with the community of Thornhill used a process called participatory budgeting to commission the Thornactive project .(This is where the community selects and approves projects that best meet their needs.)
We are working with delivery partners Active Options for the next 3 years but the project has already begun improving the health and wellbeing of community members and reducing the cumulative impact of obesity on individuals and services.
The Thornactive weight management programme provides support and equips participants with the tools required to self-manage their own health and dietary choices and reduce obesity. We have seen significant health improvements for participants using physiological measures but the programme is designed to build capacity, enabling participants to be better equipped to provide advice and motivation to friends and family members extending reach and impact the across the wider community.
