Ongoing: - Boosting Projects - Thornactive
We were commissioned by Southampton City Council in conjunction with the community of Thornhill using a process called participatory budgeting to deliver the 3 year Thornactive project. Our 3 year health and wellbeing project is reducing the cumulative impact of obesity on individuals, services and the wider community.
Ongoing: - Managing Facilities - Millennium Third Age Centre
Brought in to transform the fortunes of the 3AC community centre, Stepacross developed a new income generation strategy, boosting its visibility in the market place & developed a range of primary products to attract sustainable income through sales.
We also developed a programme to generate secondary spend boosting income through sales still further.
We increased sales by a minimum of £60k pa in two years and the charity is now entirely self-funding through the sales revenue it receives.
Ongoing - Monitoring & Evaluation - 3AC Grants and Tenders monitoring and evaluation programme
We have an ongoing contract to design and set up monitoring evaluation and programmes for grants and tenders and projects delivered by the 3rd Age Centre Southampton; these include grants for Comic Relief and HIWCF.

August 2013 -Setting Up or Switching On Business / Enterprise & Alternative Delivery Models - Switching on Social Enterprise - Folk Active CIC
Folk Active CIC operates across Hampshire & southern England. They had a vision to encourage & enable communities to come together in active enjoyment, ownership & development of traditional music, dance & folk arts. Although they knew exactly how to deliver benefits to the community, setting up as a CIC seemed a big step to take. Stepacross CIC helped to explain the process, did the necessary leg work & got them switched on. Folk Active now continues to go from strength to strength & is able to access funding, finance as a result of its sustainable model.
May 2013 - Research, Market Intelligence & Consultation Work - Asked by SCC to co-ordinate the £6M “Fulfilling Lives” bid for the City. So we:
We are able to build on this buy-in from key players in the VCSE sector to help inform opinions around need & risk mitigation options in future consultations.
April 2013 -Setting Up or Switching On Business / Enterprise & Alternative Delivery Models - UK Online Guides Ltd
Nick was an experienced business man but need start up opportunities that didn’t involve cash outlay up front. Stepacross highlighted those opportunities which helped build Nick’s business plan. As the business grew, Stepacross CIC asked Nick to develop websites on their behalf. These included an online presence for Stepacross including Southampton Placebook. Later other Stepacross clients also began to buy his services. In Dec 2013 Online Guides business won the 2013 small business start up award

Stepacross CIC were commissioned to design and organise an event on behalf of the British Computer Society to reduce the impact of the economic downturn to IT Professionals & members of BCS.
June 2012 - Planning, Growth & Improvement - Grant Support - making connections & planning for success, The Gambia Association
The Gambia Association wanted to formalise their group & get a grant to cover costs of a venue for committee meetings & activities. Stepacross CIC helped them identify grants & understand local funding priorities. We health checked their application & they got the grant. They now are supporting people into work & continue to build capacity in the wider community.
June 2012 - Planning, Growth & Improvement - Planning to Deliver Change - Southampton Iranian Society
Southampton Iranian Society has some professional community workers in their group & considerable capacity within their committee. Our role was to help develop new strategies including a new funding strategy; understand their appetite for co-production & to identify new potential partners who would wish to work in mutually beneficial ways. As a result of the new approach the group now have a meeting venue, office, provide information & advice, social groups, with health & IT projects in the pipeline. They have funding & are now even planning a carnival with Stepacross’ help.
Jan 2012 - Research, Market Intelligence & Consultation Work - Identifying the provider market for "Support With Confidence"
Commissioned by SCC Health & Adult Social Care / Trading Standards to do research & analysis work to support the roll out of the personalisation agenda. This entailed market research across the private & VCSE sector to understand the current market place with view to promoting market growth, capacity & quality as part of the “Support with Confidence” programme.
Dec 2011 - Research, Market Intelligence & Consultation Work - Mapping of Community Assets
Stepacross were commissioned by Southampton CC to scope, locate & research a variety of community assets across the Southampton; mapping these using our own online Placebook tool. We successfully provided the necessary analysis & tools to facilitate planning by Senior Managers & Members in prioritising use of resources across the city.
October 2011 - Planning, Growth & Improvement - Millennium Third Age Centre
In 2011 Stepacross was commissioned to take the charity and its staff through the process of significant transformation following an 85% drop in its income due in part to the economic downturn and also as result of unstainable practice. We worked with the Trustees to develop and agree a new business plan and to deliver the transformation . Stepacross CIC has successfully secured the short and medium term future of the charity. We are now supporting 3AC as a paid management and, as a coproduction partner, delivering of Trustees vision outlined in its new business plan.

Following a dramatic drop in income we were asked by the board to assess the viability of the charity undertaking a full risk assessment and proving trustees with an independent appraisal of the situation in order inform important decisions for the future of the charity.
